Today is Chinese New Year’s Eve! I wish every one of you and your family good health, good luck and great success in Year of the Rat🐂🥰I would like to share these two popular CNY snacks with you all which is laughing sesame cookies and sesame balls. They are easy to cook and really tasty.

Laughing Sesame Cookies and Sesame Balls
Celebrate the snack aspect of traditional Chinese New Year this with the easy to make, sesame cookies and balls.
Ingredients
Laughing Sesame Cookies
- 225 g Cake Flour
- 80 g White Sesame
- 1 Egg
- 90 g Sugar
- ½ tsp Baking Powder
- ¼ tsp Baking Soda
- 2 tbsp Water
- 2 tsp Oil
Sesame Balls
- 195 g Glutinous Rice Flour
- 1.5 g Baking SOda
- 80 g White Sesame
- 45 g Sugar
- 157 g Water
- 2 tsp Oil
Instructions
Laughing Sesame Balls
- Soak sesame in water for 15 mins, drain and set aside.
- Sift cake flour, baking powder and baking soda into a big bowl.
- In another bowl, beat egg and mix well with sugar until dissolved.
- Add cooking oil into the egg mix, whisk well.
- Gradually add water into the egg batter.
- Create a space in the middle of the powdery ingredients, add the egg batter in, slowly knead into a soft dough.
- You can add in a little bit of water if the dough gets too try as to you knead it.
- If the dough gets too sticky, then you can add in a little bit of flour.
- Rest the dough for 30 mins.
- Roll and cut the dough into like a thumb size, the piece should be cut into similar sizes so the cooking time is consistent.
- Roll it into a ball using the centre part of your palms.
- Dip each ball into the sesame ball, roll again using the centre part of your palms, so the sesame sticks on to the ball better.
- Heat up oil to 150°C.
- Deep fry in low heat for 10 mins, stir them often to make sure they are cooked evenly.
- Turn to high heat for 1 min.
- It’s done when they turn golden brown!.
Sesame Balls
- Add sugar and water into a pot, bring to boil.
- Once boiled, add half of the flour into the pot, stir well, remove pot from heat.
- Add cooking oil into the dough.
- Add in remaining flour, baking soda and a little bit of water.
- Knead into a dough and rest it for 30 mins.
- Roll and cut the dough into 25g per pieces.
- Roll it into a ball using the centre part of your palms.
- Dip each ball into the sesame ball, roll again using the centre part of your palms, so the sesame sticks on to the ball betterHeat up oil to 150°C.
- Deep fry in lowest heat possible for 10 mins, stir them often to make sure they are cooked evenly.
- As the balls float onto surface, use the back of a spatula to gently press the balls against the side of saucepan. Continue applying pressure as the balls turn golden brown and expand to approx 2-3 times their normal size.
- Turn up to high heat and continue to deep dry for 1 min.
